The Lhasa Summit Forum of the Global Digital Economy Conference 2023 was held from Tuesday to Friday in Lhasa, Tibet autonomous region, attracting more than 50 companies and resulting in 21 projects in the region.
The conference comprehensively focuses on the development trend of the world's digital economy and provides insights into the trends and opportunities inside China's digital economy. The forum aimed to accelerate the pace of Tibet's integration with China's other regions — a grand project of channeling more computing resources from eastern regions to less-developed but resource-rich western regions.

An important component of the conference, a digital forum was held on Thursday. It was attended by Chinese electronics giant Huawei and its clients. Discussions were held on topics related to Huawei's technological innovation and practical accumulation; aiding Tibet in the construction of the region's digital economy, digital government, digital culture, digital society; and on digital ecological civilization.
During the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25), Tibet has already introduced a series of policies to promote the development of the digital economy. Progress has been made with the digital economy of the region.

In this process, Huawei has also given full play to its leading roles and advantages in technology, innovation and digital transformation, and it has been working with its clients in the region and has opened a new chapter in digital development.
Wu Xiaobo, deputy director of the management committee of the Lhasa High-tech Zone, noted in his speech at the forum that the digital economy has become a new engine for high-quality economic development, and the Lhasa City government attaches great importance to the effort, which is regarded as an important driving force for achieving high-quality development in the city.

According to Wu, Lhasa has four main advantages in developing the digital economy, including natural, strategic, industrial digital and market advantages.
"In the future, Lhasa will focus on promoting the improvement of information communication and computing infrastructure in the field of informatization, and it will build Lhasa into a regional center and strategic highland in the process of China's grand project of channeling more computing resources from eastern regions to its less developed western regions," Wu said.
"In this process, we need to work together with partners like Huawei, and we hope to work with different parties to deepen the city's digital development. We hope to start a new journey of digital transformation in Lhasa," he added.

Ma Ye, vice-president of Huawei's data communication product line, said that Huawei, a partner in the development of Lhasa's digital economy, has been committed to technological innovation, industrial investment, and ecological construction since its landing in Tibet in 2002. "It has actively involved in the wave of digital construction, and it has achieved outstanding cooperation results in various fields, such as building government cloud platform, smart healthcare, smart education and digital talent cultivation," he said.
Liu Yong, an official from the region's big data development administration, shared a detailed presentation on the concepts of the digital economy, the development trends of the global and Chinese digital economies and the direction of new technology development.
"Tibet will accelerate the construction of an integrated big data system, make full use of resource-rich advantages, promote the construction of a security system and promote efficient sharing and effective use of data resources to contribute the region's overall digital economic development," Liu said.
In 2022, Tibet recorded more than 20 billion yuan ($2.78 billion) of added value contributed by the digital economy, Xinhua News Agency reported.
