Li Lingtao, dean of the School of Journalism and Communication at Beijing Sport University (BSU), made an analysis of the positive influence exerted by technological development upon the broadcasting of sporting events during his attendance at the first session of the sci-tech communication salon on August 16.
The sci-tech communication salon was co-hosted by the National Communication Center for Science and Technology affiliated to the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and the School of Journalism and Communication at Tsinghua University.
During his speech, Li explained the broadcasting of sporting events in terms of its major factors, core elements, existing difficulties and momentum of growth.
Nowadays, the innovative development of science and technology has made it possible for millions of viewers to watch various sporting events and cheer for their favorite athletes or teams at home.
The broadcasting of sporting events should first take into consideration the overall needs of viewers and satisfy their audio and visual expectations. There is an urgent need for scientific and technological workers to make 3D, 4D and 5D communication technologies affordable for the public, with the aim of enabling viewers to closely experience the excitement of sporting events.
However, the pressure confronted with the broadcasting of sporting events mainly comes from low-resolution screens and the unclear effect of relayed sound. It is still difficult for modern communication technologies to demonstrate high-quality audio and visual effects in the live broadcasting of sporting events.
Therefore, technological development should be designed to further raise and better meet the special needs of the target population. In addition, media transformation should focus on the rebuilding of broadcasting scenarios, intending to draw an interactive response from recipients and present to them a high-quality experience.
Li also stressed the importance of getting viewers fully involved in the broadcasting of sporting events, which will become a new trend and concept. The emergence of an array of new technologies has allowed the broadcasting of sporting events to give more attention to viewers and elevate them to the central stage in the entire process.
To realize this target, sporting events broadcasters should do its utmost to meet the physiological and psychological needs of millions of users and ensure that they have the same feelings as those sitting in the stadiums.
Moreover, the development of modern communication technologies will facilitate seamless and multi-dimensional coverage of sporting events and achieve high-level accuracy for audio and visual effects in the broadcasting process.
