Formerly known as the Baiyun Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, the hospital has continuously grown since its establishment in 1989. It was upgraded to a district-level public third-class traditional Chinese medicine hospital in 2006.
In 2020, the hospital established a close medical consortium with the first affiliated hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, introducing resources from provincial-level renowned doctors, creating several provincial and municipal key specialties, and nurturing 47 young talents.

During its upgrade to third class, Baiyun Hospital's Department of Preventive Medicine received a 4A rating for preventive medicine services in Guangdong province, establishing a standardized diagnosis and treatment system and conducting 98 traditional Chinese medicine diagnosis and treatment projects.
The hospital has innovated, filling gaps in various technological fields. The Critical Care Medicine Department, a leading traditional Chinese medicine specialty in Guangzhou, has achieved a success rate of over 95 percent in treating critical cases, becoming an important base for emergency and critical care in northern Baiyun.
Currently, the hospital is advancing its campus expansion project, expected to be operational by 2026, increasing the total number of beds to 1,000.
