Perfume exports from Huzhou, Zhejiang province, exceeded 79 million yuan ($11.75 million) in the first seven months of this year, up 145.9 percent year on year, with the products exported to markets including the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and the United States.
Huzhou Yufan Cosmetics Technology Co, based in a local cosmetics industry cluster, is one of the city's perfume exporters expanding production and overseas sales, developing its products with Chinese cultural elements.
One of its lines draws on the culture and scenery of the Jiangnan region (the area south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River), incorporating elements such as white-walled, black-tiled buildings, traditional boats, garden windows, and oil-paper umbrellas into its packaging.
Cao Huixing, the company's general manager, said it has continued to develop overseas markets while creating products featuring Chinese cultural elements, as its perfume exports rose 150 percent year on year from January to July.
Huzhou Customs has provided local perfume producers with guidance on production processes, labeling, and quality and safety traceability. It has also introduced remote inspections and other measures to shorten inspection and customs clearance times.
