The 29.8-km (19-mile) Xianghai Bridge will be completed in the first half of 2022, cutting travel time between Xiangzhou and Doumen districts down to 15 minutes upon operation.

The production of hanging cast-in-place and precast beams for the Modaomen Bridge, a vital section of the project, is in full swing. The 500-m (547-yd) main channel bridge stretches east to west from Zhongshan-Zhuhai Dike in Zhongshan's Tanzhou Town and across the Modaomen Waterway.

Workers from the project stayed in Zhuhai during the Spring Festival holiday from Jan 31 to Feb 6 to catch up with the schedule and work has shifted from the bridge's lower structures to the upper structure of cantilever beams.

Other parts of the project have been connected and final additions such as asphalt pavement and mechanical and electrical installations are well underway.

The Xianghai Bridge main line starts from Zaobei interchange in Xiangzhou and ends in Huxin Road in Doumen with a designated speed is 100 kmph (62 mph). Its West Extension Line from Shuanghu Road to Doumen's Baijiao town will be an overpass over Huxin Road to allow motorists to access Shuanghu Road.

The bridge will also connect with the Western Coastal, Guangzhou-Zhuhai West, and Jiangmen-Zhuhai expressways, as well as Tanzhou's municipal roads. The new expressway heading to downtown Zhuhai will greatly facilitate travel between Zhuhai's east and west wings and relieve traffic pressure on National Expressway G105 (Gudu Avenue).

The Meihua-Tanzhou interchange section of the bridge feeder is nearing completion and will start asphalt pavement for the ground ramps in the Changshawei section of G105. It will become a convenient access for motorists heading towards the Western Coastal Expressway from downtown Xiangzhou together with the Meihua-Zaobei interchange section, which was put into operation in 2020.
