The main structure of an 8.6-km (5.3-mile) section of Xianghai Bridge in Doumen District has reportedly been finished. Road paving will start soon to ensure completion of the bridge's main line in the first half of 2022. 

Stretching east-west from the Modaomen Waterway to Provincial Highway S272 in Doumen, the TJ 4 and 5 sections consist of Zhaoxingwei Interchange, Modaomen and Baiteng River mega bridges, Shengli River Bridge, Denglong Overpass, and a main line toll station.

A hub node of the Doumen section, the Zhaoxingwei Interchange in Baijiao Town features diagonal loop ramps. The designated speed is 100 kmph (62 mph) for its main road, 40 kmph (25 mph) for loop ramps, and 60 kmph (38 mph) for other ramps. Once operational, motorists on Xianghai Bridge can access Jiangmen-Zhuhai Expressway and the future Hezhou North Railway Station via the new interchange.

Spanning 29.98 km (19 miles), the dual six-lane Xianghai Bridge starts from the Guangdong Western Coastal Expressway's Tanzhou Interchange. It runs southward on an overpass of the National Expressway G105 (Gudu Avenue) to Meihua Road in Shangchong, then westward along the Zhuhai-Zhongshan border to Zhongshan's Tanzhou Town and Zhuhai's Jinwan and Doumen districts.

The Xianghai Bridge project is divided into five sections. Now the Zhuhai section is near completion while Tanzhou section is still underway. The focus of construction of the TJ1 and 3 sections have now shifted to bridge upper structures. As for the TJ2 section, civil works are nearly done and construction of the Xinfengwei Interchange in Tanzhou has been completed. 

The Meihua-Zaobei interchange section of the bridge feeder has opened to traffic in December 2020.

Being a key east-west passage parallel to and north of Zhuhai Avenue, the project's main line is expected to become operational by the first half of this year. Travel time from Doumen to Xiangzhou via Tanzhou Town will be cut from 40 to 30 minutes down to 20 minutes.
