The Shimao Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Cooperation & Innovation (Zhuhai) Base came under construction on Dec 18 on the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) island off the coast of Gongbei.

A City Exhibition Hall, Marine Ferris Wheel, and Yacht Marina are planned on a land area of 226,000 sq m (56 acres). The 967,700-sq-m (239-acre) mega complex site is located north of the Joint Inspection Building at HZMB Zhuhai Port. It will integrate comprehensive transport and businesses with a landmark light show, future Sci-Tech Entertainment Hall, Sci-Tech Convention & Exhibition Center, and themed hotels.

The Zhuhai Exhibition Hall will be located on the north side of the Zhuhai Port traffic corridor and promote the city with the latest acoustic, lighting, and shadow technologies.

In the sea area north of the project will be the double-ring Marine Ferris Wheel. It will house a Michelin restaurant, sea-view platforms, and underwater sightseeing cabins, all complemented by lighting, water curtains, fireworks, and unmanned aerial vehicle shows.

An International Yacht Marina may also be built to take advantage of the site surrounded by sea on three sides, and its proximity to Hong Kong and Macao. Marine economy activities such as cruises and tourism can be developed as well.

The investor, Shimao Group, has an international investment portfolio in real estate, hotels, businesses, entertainment, property management, culture, finance, education, health, and high technology.

The Shanghai-based enterprise won the contract for the land on Oct 18 at a cost of 5.64 billion yuan ($805 million). It will introduce overseas enterprises and world-renowned hotels in line with the land grant requirements of the Zhuhai Public Resources Trading Center.
