Macao, the former Portuguese colony, borders Zhuhai’s Gongbei in the north, and faces Zhuhai’s Wanzai and Hengqin New Area in the west. Due to the geographical proximity, Macao and Zhuhai have maintained an emotional affinity through economic cooperation, cultural exchanges, and social and livelihood integration over the two decades since Macao’s return to the motherland.
Notably, Hengqin New Area was established on Dec 16, 2009 to promote the diversified development of Macao’s industries and has now become a Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao in-depth cooperation demonstration zone.
