A significant event supporting the food and agricultural products exhibition area of the 6th China International Import Expo, the 2023 China Import Food Summit was held on Nov 7 in the West Hongqiao Area of the Hongqiao International Central Business District.
The summit attracted over 300 attendees, including representatives from embassies, industry associations, and renowned food enterprises from around the world.
Themed "Innovation Cooperation Sustainability," the summit provided a platform for in-depth discussions and exchanges on the development of China's imported food market. It coincided with the food and agricultural products exhibition of the expo, which had over 1,000 exhibitors from 100 countries and regions, the largest ever turnout in the expo's history and a reflection of the immense appeal of China's imported food market.
During the summit, a report on China's imported food industry was unveiled. The report underscored the steady growth of food imports in recent years and emphasized the pivotal role that China's imported food industry has in meeting the increasing demands of Chinese consumers, fostering global trade in food and agricultural products, and promoting international cooperation.
"China has become the world's largest consumer of imported food. China Customs is continuously striving to meet domestic demand and trade requirements, expanding the variety of imported food and the number of registered overseas food production enterprises," said Bai Lu, deputy director general of Bureau of Import and Export Food Safety of General Administration of Customs.
