Technological innovation supports Jinchuan’s cobalt products
"The positioning of our product has always been clear, which is to transform from import substitution to technological leadership," said Wang Shuliang, general manager of Lanzhou Jinchuan New Materials Technology Co., Ltd.
By 2025, it is estimated that the domestic demand for ternary precursor will reach 1.54 million tons, and the production of lithium cobalt oxide cathode material will reach 74,400 tons, indicating a promising market outlook. However, in the complex and volatile cobalt price market environment, Jinchuan’s cobalt still faces numerous challenges. Under this circumstance, Lanzhou Jinchuan New Materials Technology is making every effort to strategically position itself in the new materials field.
During the production process, in response to the fluctuating quality of multiple batches of electrolytic cobalt, the company has urgently established a special team to improve the appearance quality of electrolytic cobalt, monitoring the entire production process and conducting a thorough investigation of each issue.
This is only a microcosm of the company’s efforts to build its own brand and enhance its core competitiveness. Leveraging the nickel and cobalt resources advantage as well as innovative research and development, the company had a production capacity of approximately 55,000 tons of ternary precursor materials in 2022. Approximately 20% of the production was directly exported to countries such as Japan and South Korea, and used in new energy vehicles of leading global car manufacturers.
The electrolytic nickel cathode, cobalt trioxide, ternary precursor materials, and other products from "Golden Camel" brand are sold to Beijing, Tianjin, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and other regions. Some products are also exported to foreign markets. This proves the possibility of enhancing the competitiveness of the company through brand building and lays the foundation for the future development of a complete industrial chain from comprehensive utilization of nickel and cobalt resources to terminal battery materials.
