This year, Jinchuan Group has focused on the construction of technological innovation, increased its investment in R&D, and accelerated the transformation and application of key technologies. In 2022, Jinchuan has invested 1.13 billion yuan (about $162 million) in R&D, with a year-on-year increase of 22.8%.

Making key technological barriers a priority, Jinchuan Group has carried out in-depth research on the core technology of high temperature and corrosion resistant nonferrous metal new materials in the fields of national defense and military, aerospace, and biomedicine, to build an innovative hub characterized by nickel and cobalt, that integrates basic research, industrial generic technology research and industrialization research.
On the basis of holding the 24th Jinchuan Scientific and Technological Breakthrough Conference, Jinchuan has strengthened platform construction, deepened cooperation between production and research in the new era, broadened cooperation fields with key universities and scientific research institutes, launched 12 projects with the principal of "the open competition mechanism to select the best candidates", completed the reorganization of national key laboratories for the comprehensive utilization of nickel cobalt and co-associated resources, and launched the project of transferring the nickel cobalt new material engineering technology research center to a national technology innovation center.

At the same time, Jinchuan gives full play to the leading role of key companies to carry out joint innovation. It has constructed the "Lanzhou Jinchuan Science and Technology City" to build a Jinchuan global R&D center that is opened to and shared by Lanzhou and Gansu provinces. Furthermore, Jinchuan has also been driving the collaborative innovation of related enterprises in the industrial chain and establishing a mechanism for tackling problems with key technologies of the new energy battery material industry chain. Based on existing national key laboratories, the company has made every effort to build a national manufacturing innovation center, supporting research on cutting-edge science and technology.
This year, the company carried out 80 scientific and technological research projects, undertook 15 national, provincial and municipal major scientific research projects, made substantial progress in deep mining, new smelting processes, the comprehensive utilization of resources, and developed and produced a batch of new products, such as high-temperature alloys for nuclear power, ultra-high purity nickel plates for semiconductors, large-diameter copper-nickel alloy pipes for ships, and biomedical metal materials. The conversion rate of scientific research achievements reached 75%, and the contribution rate of scientific and technological innovation reached 65%. A total of 736 authorized patents were obtained, and the conversion rate of patent achievements reached 68%.
