At present, Jinchuan Group has completed the construction of a 5G base station, achieving network coverage and the transformation and operation of 5G electric locomotives. 5G communication technology has upgraded the self-driving technology system of Jinchuan Group.
"From electric locomotives to driverless vehicles based on Wi-Fi and driverless electric locomotives based on 5G, the upgrade of this technology has not only improved work efficiency, but also ensured safety in working," said Shi Wei, who has worked as a locomotive driver in Longshou Mine of Jinchuan Group for 10 years.
In the past, Shi Wei and his colleagues suffered from the noises, dust and blasting smoke from the poor working environment. In 2019, in order to improve the working environment and efficiency, Jinchuan Group cooperated with Beijing Soly Technology Co., Ltd. to build a communication system based on 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, and began to explore driverless electric locomotives. With this technology, only one member of staff is needed to complete ore loading and unloading, and work efficiency has been greatly improved.

In order to better solve signal problems of driverless electric locomotives, in 2020, Jinchuan Group, together with Beijing Soly Technology and China Telecom Jinchang Branch, successfully integrated an electric locomotive driverless system with 5G communication technology, and innovated the new mode of "5G + electric locomotive driverless system".

According to Zhao Peng, secretary of the CPC Longshou Mine transportation department branch committee and deputy director of Jinchuan Group Longshou Mine transportation department branch, at present, with the 5G high-speed communication mode, the driverless electric locomotive system and intelligent dispatching of electric locomotives have been realized, which has improved the transportation efficiency and safety level of the entire transportation system, greatly improving the operating environment for staff.
The implementation of this project is of pioneering significance and plays a leading role in the industrial application of 5G technology and the construction of "intelligent mines".
