On Sept 13, the flash furnace in a nickel smelter of Jinchuan Group was successfully ignited. This was another comprehensive upgrade and maintenance of the flash furnace system, following the cold repair in 2010. The process was completed 3 days ahead of schedule, creating a new record in the cold repair of a nickel flash furnace in the past 30 years.

This maintenance involved five workshops, 797 projects, and more than 3,000 personnel who participated in the process. After the overhaul, the annual handling capacity of nickel concentrate in the flash furnace system has increased to 850,000 tons, and the handling capacity of dry concentrate in the reaction tower has increased to 100 tons per hour, laying a solid foundation for the high-quality completion of Jinchuan Group's scale-multiplication plan during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period.
The flash furnace upgrading and maintenance project is a sub project of the provincial major projects, focusing on the examination and repair of the flash furnace while completing the remaining work of nine other sub projects of flash furnaces. Furthermore, six major repair projects and eleven sets of equipment purchases and installations were carried out simultaneously.
To guarantee the completion of the maintenance process, Jinchuan Group has overcome the difficulties in construction organization, conducting multiple operations, safety management and a tight task schedule, as well as in launching detailed maintenance and methods.

The successful ignition of the flash furnace marks the maintenance project having entered into the final stage. The flash furnace, which has been in operation for 30 years, will be applied again in production after its upgrade and transformation. After the upgrade and maintenance, the flash furnace capacity, the level of intelligence, standardization and automation has been significantly improved, laying a solid foundation for the high-quality development of Jinchuan’s nickel industry.
Jinchuan Group will continue to work on the last stage of the maintenance project, making its contribution to the economic growth of Gansu province.
