Zhangjiang Science City in Shanghai's Pudong New Area launched a groundbreaking ceremony for 63 projects with a combined investment of 57.5 billion yuan ($8.41 billion) on Dec 27, 2022.

The projects covered areas like high-end industries, scientific innovation, infrastructure and lifestyle improvements, all of which are expected to boost the high-quality development of Pudong.

According to official statistics, Zhangjiang Science City is now home to more than 20,000 enterprises, 1,800 of which are high-tech. The enterprises provide more than 500,000 jobs, and generate a total business revenue of one trillion yuan.

With an eye on the three core industries of Shanghai, Zhangjiang is beefing up efforts to foster world-class industrial clusters of integrated circuits, biomedicine and artificial intelligence. Currently, Zhangjiang has 87 listed companies, 38 of which are on the science and technology innovation board.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, the newly-built Zhangjiang Science City Investment Promotion Center was put into service, which is expected to play a positive role in areas such as business investment and cross-regional project coordination.
