DuPont, a science and technology company based in the United States, established a joint venture enterprise in the Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone under China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone in Pudong, Shanghai in 1992. Over the past three decades, DuPont has made great strides in Pudong, benefiting from the area's quality and ever-improving business environment.

In 2005, it launched its research and development (R&D) center in Pudong's Zhangjiang, which is DuPont's largest R&D center outside the US. The center provides technical innovation support for the company's operations in the Asia-Pacific region.

Chen Xin, general manager of DuPont China, said that Zhangjiang has a strong talent pool and is home to a large number of business partners, customers, universities and research institutes, offering favorable conditions for the operation and development of DuPont.

Since it was approved by the State Council in 1990, Pudong has made remarkable changes. In July 2021, the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council released a guideline to build Pudong into a pioneer area for China's socialist modernization and higher level of reform and opening-up, which will give a boost to the development of foreign enterprises in Pudong.

DuPont said that it would continue to invest in R&D and open innovation facilities and capabilities, further enhancing its engagement in the innovation ecosystem of Pudong.
