More than 90 percent of imported cosmetics sold during the Shanghai May 5 Shopping Festival were delivered from the Waigaoqiao bonded area, local media reported on May 12.

The 12,600-square-meter warehouse reported a year-on-year increase of 87.8 percent in inventory quantity during the first four months of 2020, with the throughput in April exceeding 6.88 million units.

Despite the ongoing novel coronavirus outbreak, products from more than 30 world-leading cosmetics brands have continued to flood into the area.

The growth results from the diversified services the area offers, meeting various demands of clients.

"All goods, either bonded, non-bonded or those for cross-border e-commerce can be stored here," said Chen Peigang, head of the logistics sector of the area's operation center. "We also offer such services as packing, labeling and commodity inspection."

According to local officials, many small and medium-sized online retailers import new products in small amounts and find it hard to locate professional third-party warehouses. Waigaoqiao has sought such clients and provided them with value-added services for the entire industrial chain.

"We established the operation center with the aim of providing tailored solutions for businesses in various fields," said Yu Yong, general manager of Shanghai Waigaoqiao Group. "Market demand is changing and we will upgrade our services accordingly."

At present, the operation center is seeking new growth points, including cruise liners, biomedicine and high-end consumer goods, given that the pandemic continues to spread globally.

In the liquor trade, the International Wine Challenge China has been postponed to September this year. But with the help of the Waigaoqiao liquor trade center, the organization has partnered with China's e-commerce giant JD to promote sales for overseas vintners.
