Beijing's 5G industry will generate revenue of about 200 billion yuan ($31 billion) in the coming year, driving the city's information service industry as well as telemedicine, ultra high-definition video and unmanned delivery services, according to the Beijing communications administration.

Eventually, these sectors will reach an industrial scale of trillions of yuan, officials estimate.

The administration said Beijing has launched 56,400 base stations for 5G, ranking first among cities across the country as of the end of April.

The capital has built an invisible 5G information highway network to cover the whole city, which is playing a bigger role in fields such as unmanned delivery, autonomous vehicles and telemedicine.
