NETDA pioneers eco-friendly practices in wire industry
The Nantong Economic and Technological Development Area (NETDA) has been closely monitoring pollution control issues related to the steel wire rope industry in the region in recently years and has achieved significant results, giving rise to a number of companies that have excelled in this aspect.
One of these companies is Jiangsu Nengda Wire Products Co Ltd, established in 2018 through joint investment by NETDA Holdings Group Co Ltd and eight large and medium-sized metal wire product enterprises in Nantong. The total investment in Nengda Wire amounts to 500 million yuan ($68.95 million), providing the company with sufficient funds to carry out environmental protection initiatives.
Nengda Wire adheres to local Shanghai emissions standards, which are more stringent than national standards. The company has invested over 30 million yuan in its pickling and phosphating production line, well above the normal 6-million-yuan investment. Its wastewater treatment equipment investment exceeded 15 million yuan, compared to the usual 2-million-yuan investment. The company recycles 60 percent of production wastewater through the reuse of cooling water and has a solar power capacity of 4.2 megawatts on-site, meeting 12 percent of the company's daily electricity needs.
Additionally, Nengda Wire has 20 real-time monitoring devices on-site, with live images and relevant data directly uploaded to the environmental monitoring system. In case of any issues, such as exceeding emission limits, the system immediately alerts the company to take corrective action.
By reducing pollution, the future of the area's steel wire rope industry looks more promising than ever.
In addition to Nengda Wire, other steel wire rope companies have also embarked on the path of innovation. Another local company, Huaxin New Materials Technology (Jiangsu) Co Ltd, has seen its steel wire ropes installed in the Dubai Tower. Moreover, the company’s independently-developed galvanized steel wire can resist rust for up to 30 years, even in harsh underwater environments.
Chen Lin, the general manager of the company, said that the company has gone from struggling to rectify its pollution issues to expanding its presence globally, all through the development of innovative products.
Currently, the company is seeking to cooperate with Huazhong University of Science and Technology to develop artificial intelligence equipment, promising more diverse products and broader application fields in the future.
