In recent years, Haimen district in Nantong, Jiangsu province, has been actively promoting digital technologies in rural areas, with significant efforts focused on Zhenyu town and Changle town.

One key initiative in this push for modernization is the construction of a high-tech smart greenhouse factory in the Agricultural Science and Technology Industrial Park in Changle town. The main structure of the smart greenhouse has already been completed, and the entire project is expected to be finished by the end of October.

Once operational, the facility will be managed through a partnership between Changle town, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and a specialized agricultural research team. The smart greenhouse will consist of several zones, including a smart fruit and vegetable production area, an ecological science education zone, an aquaponics demonstration area, a water and fertilizer system for aquaponics, and a product value-added storage center.

According to preliminary estimates, the greenhouse is expected to produce over 200 metric tons of fruits and vegetables annually. Automation will improve operational efficiency by 20 percent, saving over 40 percent on water and fertilizers and reducing labor costs by around 60 percent.

The smart greenhouse is also expected to benefit local farmers by introducing new technologies and varieties, boosting productivity and profitability in the surrounding area.
