Known as the top town for Chinese river crabs, Anfeng in Xinghua city, located in East China's Jiangsu province, has continued to improve the competitiveness and profile of its famed produce.
Recently, a new intelligent warehouse distribution center being invested in by Red Chef, one of top companies in the domestic fresh food industry, has been accelerating its construction.
The distribution center will have a temporary breeding capacity of 50,000 kilograms of river crabs, which is projected to be put into use before the Mid-Autumn Festival.
The center is one of 36 warehouses Anfeng town is planning to help reduce intermediate supply links and price differences.
"Problems hindering the high-quality development of the river crab industry, such as standardizing crab pond resource management and extending the industry supply chain, were urgent for local government to solve," said Zou Ruming, deputy chief of Anfeng.
The town regards standardized resource management as a breakthrough to improve the efficiency of aquaculture and verifies the composition of each crab pond, including the confirmed ownership area and seedling pond. This allows crab farmers to invest in crab farming safely.
Last year, the town's average income per mu from river crabs hit 6,600 yuan ($928) and the collective operating income of the entire town reached 38.73 million yuan, a hefty increase of 69.5 percent year-on-year.
