A rice experimental demonstration base was settled in Xinghua city, under the administration of Taizhou in East China's Jiangsu province, on May 28, cultivating a variety of rice that can grow to a height of 1.8 to 2.2 meters.
The water storage depth of this rice variety can reach 50 to 70 centimeters, so aquatic animals such as fish, frogs, shrimp, crabs, and ducks can be raised here simultaneously.
This rice variety was a result of 10 years of development by Xia Xinjie, scientist at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and his research group.
The original intention of developing this variety was to achieve high yield and quality. It was developed through the mutant screening and cross-breeding of existing excellent rice seeds, said Xia Xinjie.
