A press conference promoting the 2023 China Taizhou Qintong Boat Festival was held in Shanghai on March 24, inviting tourists from around the world to enjoy the folk gala that will be staged on April 8 in Qintong Ancient Town in Jiangyan district of Taizhou city.
The festival is one of the district's major cultural events. Originating in the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279), it served as a ceremony to commemorate war victims around the time of the Qingming Festival, also known as Tomb Sweeping Day.
As such, the tradition has been well preserved and promoted, offering exhilarating views of the sight of hundreds of boats gathered together.
The festival will include 18 activities this year such as food tastings, appreciation of camellia flowers and wetland tours.
