A campaign to offer legal aid services to people in need has been launched by the bureau of justice of Zhanjiang since May, and will last until the end of this year.
It is aimed at fostering a sound environment for the city's fight against poverty.
The campaign will further promote legal aid coverage to low-income groups, as well as focus on helping left-behind children in rural areas, empty nesters, people with disabilities, and women.
Cases related to labor security, marriage, food and medicine, education, medical treatment, accident compensation, land expropriation and relocation, as well as land transfer will be gradually included in the supplementary items of legal aid services.
Relying on public legal services workstations, the campaign will take the initiative to provide legal assistance services to severely disabled people, people living on basic living allowance, and rural households enjoying the "five guarantees" (access to proper food, clothing, medical care, housing, and funeral/educational expenses).
In addition, disputes arising from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, such as payment of labor remuneration, termination of work, work-related injury compensation, and housing lease issues, shall be included in the supplementary items of legal aid services.
Medical workers, soldiers, police officers, community workers, and volunteers who have fought on the front lines against COVID-19 shall be exempted from verification of economic difficulties in applying for legal aid.
To date, legal aid agencies in the city have carried out 13 related activities and distributed more than 20,000 copies of various publicity materials.
A total of 174 legal aid cases have been handled, including three cases related to unpaid wages of migrant workers transferred by the China Legal Service Network, which involved 110 migrant workers, related to a total amount of more than 3 million yuan ($428,770).
