A series of activities for poverty alleviation through consumption was launched on July 2 by the Zhanjiang poverty relief office, the Zhanjiang commerce bureau, and the Foshan poverty alleviation working group in Zhanjiang.
The activities aimed to promote the sales of poverty alleviation products in Zhanjiang, help the city’s poverty alleviation efforts, and boost rural revitalization.
A total of 22 enterprises from Foshan reached cooperation agreements with Zhanjiang, including six that placed orders and 16 that signed purchasing intention agreements.
Nearly 40 metric tons of poverty alleviation products, including rice, peanut oil, sweet potatoes, fruit, and seafood, were sent to Foshan at the launching ceremony of the series of activities.
Poverty alleviation through consumption can promote the sound development of poverty alleviation industries in poverty-stricken areas, help impoverished people to increase their incomes, as well as build a long-term mechanism for social poverty alleviation, said Li Jianyi, executive deputy director of the Zhanjiang poverty relief office.
Li also expressed his hopes that more caring enterprises and individuals would join the poverty alleviation efforts through consumption to win the battle against poverty.
By the end of May, Zhanjiang had lifted a total of 81,680 poverty-stricken households and 233,737 impoverished people out of poverty, as well as 218 impoverished villages.
