4. Natural conditions

Zhanjiang Port is a great natural harbor with broad, well-surrounded waters. Within the harbor, the water is deep and calm with little silt, and there are 247 km of natural coastline, including 97 km deepwater coastline, some of which are 26 m to 40 m deep. The harbor water area is about 157.9 square km, and the port land area is about 65 square km.

5. Traffic conditions

The port of Zhanjiang is not only an important hub in the national comprehensive transport system, but also the pivotal traffic center in the western part of Guangdong as well as in the Beibuwan Gulf circle. Five modes of transportation (waterway, highway, railway, aviation and pipeline) are available in the city. Several major railways, such as the Litang-Zhanjiang Line, Guangzhou-Zhanjiang Line, Luoyang-Zhanjiang Line and Zhanjiang-Sanya Line, connect the national trunk railway lines to the whole country.

6. Development plan of Zhanjiang Port Group

In the next few years, Zhanjiang Port Group (ZPG) will continue the implementation of its "in-depth , large-scale, professional" strategy. We shall focus on developing four specialized port areas, and gradually develop port areas outside Zhanjiang harbor and build a bonded logistics park and large-scale commodity trading center. We expect that several large-scale logistics or distribution centers for ores, petroleum, coal, grains, wood, steel, fertilizers and sulphur will be set up in 2016, and a regional international logistics center will be established in 2020.

1) Baoman port

The phase-II project at Baoman port

4,420-meters of shoreline in the west of phase-I Baoman Container Terminal will be exploited to newly construct 12 container or multi-purpose berths with an annual throughput of about 85 million tons, of which the containers will be 3 million TEU. The project will kick off construction in 2014, and it will be completed and put into operation in 2017.

Project of Zhanjiang bonded logistics center (Type B)

The bonded and logistics center will occupy an area of about 400,000 square meters. When the project is completed, customers can carry out bonded warehousing, international transit, international procurement, international distribution and international entrepot trading and other modern logistics business. The freight volume in and out of the center will be 4.75 million tons.

2) Donghai Island port

1,800-meters of shoreline of Donghai Island port will be exploited to construct the phase-I project, including six 70,000-200,000 DWT general cargo berths with a designed annual capacity of about 50 million tons. And additional 1,000-meter shorelines will be used to construct the phase-II project, including three 100,000-150,000 DWT general cargo berths with designed annual capacity of about 15 million tons.
