Three athletes from Shaoxing, Zhejiang province, will represent China at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games, scheduled for Oct 18 to 24. They are swimmer Jiang Yuyan and goalball players Yu Qinquan and Zheng Jie.

At 21, Jiang has already built an impressive international career. She won two gold medals at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, held in 2021, and four golds at the 2023 World Para Swimming Championships. At the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Para Games, she was the athlete with the most gold medals and total medals.

At the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, Jiang won seven gold medals, broke two world records, and set three Paralympic records. In 2025, she became the first Chinese athlete to win the Laureus World Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability award. She will compete in six events in the 2026 Asian Para Games, aiming to deliver her best performance yet.

Meanwhile, Yu helped China's men's goalball team win silver at the Tokyo Paralympics, while Zheng contributed to China's women's team winning gold at the 2025 Asia-Pacific Championships.

All three athletes are currently stepping up their pre-competition training. Their participation highlights the determination and competitive spirit of Shaoxing's para-athletes as they prepare to take the international stage once again.
