Huangshan achieves strong economic growth in Q1

Huangshan reported robust economic performance in the first quarter of 2024, with its GDP reaching 26.62 billion yuan ($3.68 billion), a 6.8 percent year-on-year increase and ranking second in Anhui province.

Agricultural production maintained steady growth, with the total output value increasing 4.9 percent to 1.84 billion yuan, supported by a 19.9 percent rise in forestry product output, 11.7 percent in timber, and 2.4 percent in livestock.

Industrial production accelerated significantly, with value-added output from large-scale enterprises surging 11.9 percent, led by mining at 19.3 percent, manufacturing at 11.5 percent, and utilities at 17.2 percent. High-tech manufacturing sectors performed particularly well, with automotive production rising 41.8 percent and electronics manufacturing up 28.5 percent.  

The services sector expanded rapidly as well, with tourism revenue increasing 13.1 to 21.38 billion yuan as the city welcomed 18.64 million visitors, up 11.4 percent year-on-year. Key service industries showed strong momentum, with information technology services growing 54.7 percent and logistics increasing 45 percent.  

Investment and consumption both contributed strongly to economic growth. Fixed-asset investment rose 8.9 percent, with primary sector investment nearly doubling. Retail sales increased 5.7 percent to 14.82 billion yuan, with sales of electronics such as smartphones up 99.4 percent and smart home appliances rising 23.9 percent.  

Employment and incomes also improved, with urban per capita disposable income reaching 14,257 yuan, up 5.1 percent, while rural incomes grew 7.2 percent to 8,582 yuan, the fastest pace in the province. The city hosted 449 job fairs and saw the creation of 4,697 new urban jobs.
