On Oct 28, the unveiling ceremony for the Huizhou Weirs, recognized as a World Heritage Irrigation Structures, took place in Xixinan town, Huizhou district, Huangshan.

Leaders of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) and Huangshan city attended the ceremony.

During the 75th executive council meeting of the ICID held in September this year, the 2024 World Heritage Irrigation Structures list was announced. The Huizhou Weir, along with the Wuyuan Stone Weir from Jiangxi province, and other significant irrigation projects, including the Turpan Karez in Xinjiang, the Fengyan Terraces in Hanyin, Shaanxi, and the Jufeng Weir in Xiushan, Chongqing, made the list.

Huizhou district plans to enhance the protection of its irrigation heritage, accelerating the construction of the Huizhou Weir Heritage Museum and the Shiqiao Water Culture Park. These initiatives aim to improve the management and conservation of irrigation heritage, transforming it into an internationally influential cultural and tourism brand and revitalizing this ancient engineering marvel.
