Tachuan, a historic village in Huangshan's Yixian county has rapidly gained acclaim as a top autumn spot in the country, rivaling renowned destinations like Beijing's Fragrant Hills and Sichuan's Jiuzhaigou.

Over the past three years, tourism has soared, with visitor numbers leaping from 36,000 in 2010 to 180,900 in 2023 – propelling tourism revenue from 579,400 yuan ($81,447) to 1.3 million yuan in the period.

The village's approach of integrating agriculture into its scenery has created over 1,000 mu (66.7 hectares) of pastoral landscape. By cultivating a variety of scenic crops and ornamental plants – including rapeseed, lotus flowers and maple trees – Tachuan has transformed its surroundings, drawing visitors to witness glorious land throughout the seasons.

Adding to its allure, the newly opened Tachuan Coffee shop has become a hit destination – offering a serene setting with views of the charming wheat fields and the ambient sounds of autumn cicadas.

Tachuan has also embraced a blend of traditional and modern elements – introducing quirky things like coffee shops in rice fields and rice wine studios, catering to the diverse needs of tourists seeking an unusual and idyllic countryside retreat.

Beyond its scenic beauty, Tachuan provides a tranquil rural lifestyle – attracting tourists seeking peace and a break from urban life. In fact, the village's strategic shift towards leisure tourism has revitalized the local economy, with high-end homestays offering unique experiences to visitors.

With 68 households currently operating accommodation, Tachuan's annual operating income now exceeds 10 million yuan, showcasing its success in rural tourism development.

As a model for leisure tourism in the Greater Huangshan area, Tachuan has become a benchmark for rural tourism in Yixian county's Hongcun town.
