Huangshan's diverse experiences drive tourism boom during holiday

During the 2024 National Day holiday, Huangshan's cultural and tourism scene has been nothing short of spectacular and continuously bustling. The city welcomed over 8 million visitors, marking a 12.85 percent increase compared to the previous year, with the total tourism revenue reaching 6.35 billion yuan ($900 million), a 13.27 percent increase.

Huangshan has promoted the fusion of "culture and tourism" and developed a series of participatory, experiential, and immersive new formats, such as Chinese-style tours, night tours, and performances. These fashionable and youthful scenes cater to the diverse emotional values of consumers.

Throughout this National Day holiday, the city's three districts and four counties have curated 48 tourism spots around six categories, such as autumn viewing, sunbathing, photography, fun, dining, and lodging. They've also introduced 176 activities across five major segments, including leisure activities, culinary experiences, art performances, cultural exhibitions, and branded events.

Embracing the theme of "the most beautiful autumn," the city has designed six exquisite routes featuring World Heritage tours, self-drive photography journeys, intangible cultural heritage experiences, parent-child study tours, leisure and wellness retreats, and gourmet tasting expeditions.

Huangshan's tourism during the holiday booms. Mount Huangshan Scenic Area hosted over 30,000 visitors for four consecutive days. Yixian county welcomed over 1 million visitors in the first five days. The city registered over 100,000 overnight guests for five consecutive days, reaching a peak of 167,000 guests with an occupancy rate of up to 99 percent, The city saw 2,296 registered overnight foreign visitors, a 162 percent increase compared to last year, with South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong visitors comprising the majority. The city's highway traffic volume reached 1.37 million vehicles, a 14.29 percent increase, while the high-speed rail saw 463,700 arrivals and departures, a 40.19 percent increase, both setting new historical records.

These impressive figures showcase Huangshan's vibrant cultural and tourism consumption, displaying the city's rich offerings in cultural and tourism products and the inevitable outcome of expanding new scenes and formats.
