Huangshan is key in satisfying Africa's tea cravings with exquisite green teas.
In many African countries, savoring a cup of Chinese tea has become an indispensable part of local life. According to the China Agricultural International Cooperation Promotion Tea Industry Branch, seven African nations were among the top 10 destinations for Chinese tea exports in 2023.
To meet Africa's growing demand for tea, numerous tea enterprises in Huangshan, Anhui province, a key tea-producing region in China, are ramping up production of green tea for export to Africa.
Customs data reveals that in 2023, Huangshan exported tea worth 1.37 billion yuan ($192.5 million) to Africa, accounting for 91.2 percent of its total exports, with Ghana, Mauritania, and Senegal emerging as its top three tea trade partners. An increasing number of tea enterprises are focusing on the African market, tailoring tea products to suit the preferences of African consumers.
