Its immensely appealing winding waterways and superb water quality not only enhances the stunning scenery of Huangshan city – located in Anhui province – but also has a real commercial value, boosting the local economy enormously during the recent National Day Holiday.
The majestic Xin'an River, which flows kilometer after kilometer through the city, received 12,351 tourists – an increase of 9.93 percent year-on-year – on the first day of the holiday alone.
As of Oct 7, the local Taiping Lake Scenic Area had received 201,700 tourists and achieved a turnover of 17.85 million yuan ($2.49 million), up 20.16 percent year-on-year.
Although Taiping Lake has only been developing its water entertainments for a short year, it has become the third largest business segment locally.
The water recreation facilities, in particular, received 38,600 tourists – generating sales of 3.82 million yuan during the break – up 114.45 percent year-on-year.

What's more, fish farming has become a characteristic industry of rural vitalization, bringing more than 700 million yuan of comprehensive output value to the city every year. In addition to sightseeing, visitors can also taste the delicious local fish.
Moving forwards, plans are for Huangshan to continue to expand its water economy which is expected to boost the local economy.
