Huangshan city in Anhui province is continuing to implement an innovation-driven development strategy to strengthen technological innovation and optimize its industrial structure, a goal it has pursued over the past decade.
While transforming and upgrading its traditional industries, the city has focused on cultivating nine emerging industries including intelligent manufacturing, new energy and artificial intelligence.
As a result, Huangshan-based enterprises have increased their investment in scientific research and have made significant breakthroughs.
One example, Huangshan Wanbang Electronic Technology Co Ltd – a core supplier of influential auto parts manufacturers in China – is understood to invest over 20 percent of its annual output in research and development.
The company's first batch of mass-produced protective plates for lithium batteries has to date achieved an output value of more than 500,000 yuan ($72,492). When output is fully ramped up, the protective plates are projected to generate an annual output value of 10-20 million yuan.
Anhui Shanfu New Material Technology Co Ltd is another enterprise adhering to independent research and development. Its R&D spending last year accounted for 3.31 percent of its total revenue, which reached 22.33 million yuan in 2021. The enterprise now owns 10 invention patents for core technologies.
Moreover, the city has 10 national "little giants" enterprises – leading small and medium companies that specialize in niche sectors and boast cutting-edge technologies.
It also has 111 provincial small and medium-sized enterprises with specializations, refinements and novelties, as well as 233 national high-tech enterprises.
