The Huizhou district of Huangshan city is known as the south gate of Huangshan Mountain – a UNESCO world heritage site, located in Anhui province.
It is also known as the backyard garden of Shanghai, as well as of Hangzhou city, capital of East China's Zhejiang province.
The district, located in the center of the southern Anhui Basin, is what's called a "natural oxygen bar" with an open area, distinct four seasons and beautiful scenery.
It was one of the important settlements of Huizhou merchants – who accounted for almost half of China's wealth from late Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) to early Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) – and was the main birthplace of Huizhou culture.
Let's check out the splendid, characteristic and historic villages in the district.
