Expanding Zhuhai airport to complete 2b yuan investment in 2023
The core construction area of the renovation and expansion project of Zhuhai (Jinwan) Airport will secure a total investment of more than 2 billion yuan ($295 million) in 2023 to speed up its work.
The core area includes the airport's Terminal II, the Zhuhai Airport Comprehensive Transportation Hub, a new control tower, and supporting facilities. The project has received an investment of 3.54 billion yuan ($521.42 million) since construction started in November 2019, while its total investment stands at 14.53 billion yuan ($2.14 billion).

Liao Xionghua, chief engineer of the project's contractor, Zhuhai Hangcheng Airport Construction Co, noted that construction of sectors such as the Terminal II's baggage handling system and boarding bridges, hotels, and the new control tower will begin this year.
It is estimated that works like the Terminal II's main structure, as well as the overpasses and main roof of the comprehensive transportation hub project will be completed this year.
Liao noted that the construction will not affect the current operation of the airport. Zhuhai (Jinwan) Airport has handled more than 200 flights daily since February, an increase of more than 100 percent compared with the figures from December 2022.
Of note, the existing 36-meter (118-ft) control tower will be replaced by a new 88-m (289-ft) tower after nearly three decades of operation.
Upon completion, the airport is expected to handle 198,000 flights, 27.5 million passengers, as well as 104,000 metric tons of cargo and mail annually.
