The first building in the Hengqin Science City (Phase II) project was capped on July 18, while final touches like the internal mechanical and electrical installation, as well as interior decoration will begin soon, according to the constructor Zhuhai Da Heng Qin Development.
The 112,000-sqm (28-acre) building has floorage of 921,000 sqm (227 acres) and is equipped with service facilities like offices, conference and exhibition halls, public transportation stations, parking lots, commercial areas, dormitories, and canteens.

Located at the northwest corner of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, the project has total floorage of more than 3 million sqm (741 acres). It will become a platform for Hengqin's four major industries, namely sci-tech R&D and high-end manufacturing, brand industries like TCM, culture, tourism, convention and exhibition, and modern finance, as well as a high-speed operation channel for the flow of sci-tech talents, logistics, and information.
Altogether 18 buildings will be built in the T1 section of the project, and the tallest one will have 41 floors and a height of 180 m (591 ft). Upon operation, the facilities will form the highest architectural cluster in northwest Hengqin, echoing Shizimen Central Business District in the east.
Phase II of the Hengqin Science City project has been listed among the major construction projects of Guangdong Province in 2022 and work started on its main structure earlier this year. Currently, a total of 20 tower cranes and 23 construction elevators are being used to move forward construction, preparing for the project's completion in June 2025.
