The 4th Zhuhai Domestic & Overseas Young Doctors & Postdocs Innovation & Entrepreneurship Fair commenced Dec 19 to match local governments, companies, and high-caliber talents.

A hundred young doctorate holders and postdoctoral researchers from 43 universities at home and abroad attended the event at the Chimelong Hengqin Bay Hotel on Sunday. It was held concurrently with the 2021 China Postdoctoral Innovation & Development (Hengqin) Summit.

Companies from five of Zhuhai's future 100-billion-yuan ($16-billion) industrial clusters for integrated circuits (IC), biomedicine, new materials, new energy, and high-end printing equipment were invited. Leading the group were Apex Microelectronics, Zhuhai Zhonghui Microelectronics, Gree Electric Appliances, and Zhuhai Livzon Diagnostics. Among the candidates were those from Tsinghua University, Harbin Institute of Technology, and Sun Yat-sen University.

United Laboratories reached cooperation intentions with doctorates whose medical device and biological engineering experience match the company's urgent demands, according to Meng Wenjing, head of the company's human resources department. 

Zhang Xiaofeng, first-prize winner at the 6th Maker in China Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition in November, reached out to doctorates specializing in IC from the University of Macau. His project -- a new generation of neural network-based chip reliability design commercial EDA (electronic design automation) software -- gained financial support from the local government after settling in Xiangzhou District. 

Five Zhuhai industrial parks promoted Zhuhai's innovation and entrepreneurship environment. They included the service base promoting Zhuhai-Macao cooperation and Macao's moderate economic diversification in Shizimen Central Business District, Guangdong Provincial Entrepreneurship & Innovation (Zhuhai) Incubation Base for Doctoral & Postdoc Fellows, and Huafa Industrial Park. Zhuhai now provides a subsidy of up to 8 million yuan ($1 million) for young talents to start businesses in the city.

The 2021 China Postdoctoral Innovation & Development (Hengqin) Summit was held Sunday and Monday. It was the first national event for comprehensive high-caliber talents since establishment of the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin. It included a national forum on the new ecology of artificial intelligence, seminar on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), industry-university-research conference for the Macao Young Scholars Program, and matchmakings.

Eighty-nine postdoctoral workstations have been established in Zhuhai Since 1999. There are 83 workstations, substations, or bases at citywide industrial parks and enterprises. Over 340 postdocs have been introduced to the city and 180 of them are working on research projects at the stations, the number ranking the city among the top in Guangdong.
