The ecology of Sanjiao Island in the Wanshan Archipelago has been restored from mostly barren to tropically attractive and will open next year as an ideal tourist destination.

Science promotions, themed experiences, water sports, and waterborne leisure tourism are being planned. Currently operating are a marine monitoring center, wind power station, seawater desalination and waste treatment plants, and fire control center.

Moreover, water, electricity, and telecommunication projects on the Island have been completed and a passenger pier will be ready by the end of the year. Four-thousand meters (13,123 ft) of shoreline and 80,000 sqm (3,163 sq yd) of forestation are said to offer plentiful biodiversity. 

China's first uninhabited island for "public service + tourism" and ecological restoration came under development by Jiuzhou Holdings Group in February 2017. Costing 2.2 billion yuan ($344 million), the .87-sq-km (215-acre) project will initially have main functional areas for cultural tourism, relaxation, support services, and more. 

Sanjiao Island is 8.7 nautical miles and 20 minutes by ferry from Jiuzhou Port in Jida. Exclusively a quarry site in the 1980s and 1990s, the ecological environment had been ravaged and contained almost no greenery when Su Xiaoqiang of Jiuzhou Holdings first eyed the island early in 2019.
