The first bullet train left Zhuhai Station in Gongbei on a 15-minute trip to Hengqin Chimelong Station at 8:48 am Aug 18.

An improved version of the CRH2, the CRH6A intercity express has eight cars that together can hold more than 1,000 passengers. The train reaches a maximum speed of 100 kmph (62 mph).

Twenty runs are made daily over 16.86 km (10.5 miles) during the initial operation period of Zhuhai Airport Urban Rail Transit Phase I. Stops include the underground Wanzai North, Wanzai (not yet open), Shizimen, Hengqin North, and Hengqin stations.

A one-way ticket costs 7 to 11 yuan ($1 to $2), and can be purchased using the China Railway 12306 app and official website https://www.12306.cn/, or at windows or self-service machines. Travelers enter the station and check in with ID cards and facial recognition.

Zhuhai Station is connected by corridor to Intercity MRT Zhuhai Station. An area is reserved for another connection to adjacent New Guangdong-Macao Channel (Qingmao Checkpoint), which is under construction.

Covering 60,000 sq m (15 acres), Hengqin Station is the second largest underground railway station in the country. Exits 4 and 5 are meters from new Hengqin Checkpoint, which will accommodate an extension line of Macao Light Rail Transit.

The blue and white design of Chimelong Station abounds in marine elements to represent nearby Chimelong International Ocean Resort. They are connected by a pedestrian overpass.

An extension of Guangzhou-Zhuhai Intercity MRT, the 39.48-km (24.5-mile) Zhuhai Airport Urban Rail Transit will reduce travel time between Gongbei and Zhuhai (Jinwan) Airport to half an hour. It will alleviate travel pressure in the city and contribute to connections with Macao.

Phase II will travel 22.8 km (14.2 miles) from Chimelong International Ocean Resort to the terminus station at Zhuhai (Jinwan) Airport. It is to be completed by early 2023.
