Work to build Gree Electric Appliances High-End Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Park in the Gaolan Port Economic Zone is continuing non-stop.

SCEGC Foundation Construction Engineering Group commenced Phase 1 construction on March 31. Currently, more than 70 percent of backfill has been completed using some 90 dump trucks, 20 excavators, and 10 bulldozers, according to deputy project manager Mou Jianye.

Meanwhile, 300 workers are on round-the-clock shifts. Seven specialty machines have been applying soft foundation treatment since June 8. After anticipated approval later this month, more task-specific devices, agitators, and dynamic compaction machines will be added, and the number of workers increased to 700. Tubular pile construction is to begin in late October.

Costing 15 billion yuan ($2.1 billion), the industrial park occupies 1.59 million sq m (392 acres) west of Sanhu Avenue. It will initially produce household air-conditioners and gradually extend to washing machines and refrigerators. It is envisioned as a benchmark "smart factory" with automatic production equipment, intelligent logistics, and green design.

The park advantageously located near Zhuhai West Railway Station in Nanshui Town, Zhuhai Port, Zhuhai (Jinwan) Airport, Gaolan Port Expressway, and the starting point of the Huangmao Sea Channel Bridge. Products can be transported south through Zhuhai Port, north to Zhongshan and Guangzhou ports by rail, and east to Hong Kong and Macao ports across the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.

Once operational, the industrial park will further upgrade Gree's intelligent manufacturing and cater to the company's growing global market scale.

The Gaolan Port Economic Zone will provide all-round services for the project, and two urban roads on the north and south sides of the industrial park will be opened before the end of this year, said Jiang Xueyong, deputy executive director of the local Administrative Committee.
