Overpass is relief valve for Nanwan Intersection traffic
The northbound side of the Jinqin Expressway overpass of Zhuhai Avenue to Beisan Road and along Nanwan Avenue to the rebuilt Nanping Bridge in Nanping Town opened to traffic on April 29, signifying completion of all major node projects along the new highway.
The overpass is a steel box girder structure 745 m (815 yd) long and weighing 3,000 tons. Its east side enables smooth north-south traffic flow over the bustling Nanwan Road Interchange.

Work on the northbound lanes has advanced from expansion joints to link road construction, and is expected to be completed by the end of this month. By then, construction will have commenced on auxiliary roads on both sides of the structure. The entire expressway should open by late June.
A key north-south channel through downtown Zhuhai areas, Jinqin Expressway runs from the intersection of Gangwan Avenue and Jinfeng Road in Jinding Town of Tangjiawan, and connects to the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway in the south and Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge farther north. Construction projects along the road are undertaken by Zhuhai Communication Group.
The project has cost 197 million yuan ($28 million) -- 34.5 percent of the annual plan -- over the past four months, and 1.49 billion yuan ($211.4 million) in all, 73.39 percent of the entire budget. It will support the economic integration of Zhuhai, Hong Kong, and Macao as well as coordinated economic development of other cities in the Pearl River Delta.
