With a contract now awarded for construction of its third and final section, Jinqin Express Road is expected to open by 2020, the Zhuhai Highway Bureau announced on Nov 29. 

Jinqin Express Road is a key channel running through downtown Zhuhai from north to south, starting from the intersection of Gangwan Avenue and Jinfeng Road in Jinding Town of Tangjiawan, and connecting to the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway in the south and Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge to the north.

The road will cross the Guangzhou-Zhuhai Intercity MRT and run southward along Jinfeng Road past Elec-Tech International Co Ltd and the Zhuhai campuses of the Beijing Institute of Technology and Beijing Normal University in Tangjiawan.

An overpass will be built at West Jintang Road, and an underpass constructed outside BNU Zhuhai. Overlapping the Fenghuang Mt Tunnel, the road will continue south to Santaishi Interchange. It will pass over Sanshitai, Meijie, and Wobei roads by a new viaduct, the end of which will meet the G105 section of the Xianghai Expressway by a ramp bridge. The auxiliary road will access West Meihua Interchange in New Xiangzhou.

The north section of 9.6 km will link Gangwan Avenue with Meihua Interchange. Landscaping and construction work are well under way. The 1.5-km middle section will connect Zaobei Interchange with Zhuhai Avenue. The pile foundation and soft soil subgrade treatment of the north approach bridge and ramp bridge have been completed, with a temporary passage in place.

In the meantime, the south section will start from Zhuhai Avenue and proceed 2.5 km to Beisan Road, for which the contract was awarded on Nov 22. The next stage will be preparatory work for construction.

The southward extension of the express road will utilize the Cuiping section of the Xianghai Expressway to access the end of Zaobei Interchange and turn southward to Workers Village Road. Passing over Jinji Road in Shangchong, it will cross the rebuilt Nanping Bridge and run along Nanwan Avenue. An overpass will traverse Zhuhai Avenue to Beisan Road.

The bridge will meet the south section of Lovers Avenue and connect with the link road of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and Hengqin New Area.

According to a bureau official, construction of Jinqin Express Road will ensure an efficient connection between the outbound expressways, fast traffic, and the urban road network. 

Serving as a bond linking downtown Zhuhai with the outside, it will support the economic integration of Zhuhai, Hong Kong, and Macao as well as coordinated economic development of other cities in Pearl River Delta.
