Daily production of 1.2 million facemasks this week will help businesses resume operations, an official of the Zhuhai Industry & Information Technology Bureau announced at a March 12 on-site press conference.

Running again as of Thursday were 3,832 (87.83 percent) local enterprises above designated size, 1,363 (98.1 percent) larger 1,389 industrial enterprises, and 99.5 percent of the top 200 industrial enterprises in output value.

The daily mask production of local manufacturers exceeded 800,000 by March 12, of which 280,000 were N95 types, more than 300,000 disposal medical, and 240,000 ordinary masks. Production is still on the rise.

Notably, Zhuhai Gejian Medical Science & Technology, a subsidiary of Gree Electric Appliances, can produce more than 150,000 masks daily with two manual and six automatic production lines. More workshops will soon bring daily production to 1 million.

According to the company's development strategy, mask production will be further expanded and serialized in the future. For instance, Gejian will produce different kinds of masks, such as those for children, said deputy executive general manager Fan Qingqing.

Meanwhile, companies like Zhuhai Orbita Aerospace Science & Technology are also expanding their business scope to include mask manufacture, while those like Zhuhai Kanglilai Medical Equipment are ramping up production.

To date, Zhuhai has 40 emergency supply manufacturers, of which 12 produce masks, one protective suits, one ambulances, two reagents, and two medical devices.

Moreover, the city has stocked six million masks, 39,000 protective suits, 22,000 goggles, more than 300,000 pairs of gloves, and some thermometers, nucleic acid testing equipment and reagents, drugs for corona virus disease (COVID-19), and disinfectant supplies, said a Zhuhai Finance Bureau official.
