For the flavor of what's coming up at 2019 Zhuhai Design Week, one of the participants, Kontrapunkt of Denmark, boldly states, "We design to excite people and inspire change."

The event, from Dec 13 to 15, will feature a Design Trip, exhibitions, dialogues, exchanges, award ceremonies, and cooperation activities with Macao, all themed on Design and Science & Technology, it was announced on Nov 26.

Major activities will be held at the Zhuhai International Convention & Exhibition Center with an exhibition area of 15,000 sq m (3.7 acres), while other culture-tourism, sci-tech, and landmark sites in Zhuhai and Macao will serve as sub-venues.

Macao Design, Hong Kong Design, Design Zhuhai, and Youth Design 100 exhibitions will be staged at Hall 4, as will an itinerant exhibition of Award-Winning Design Concepts from the Red Dot Award: Design Concept -- A Preview of the Future, and Exhibition of National Image Designs of the Beginning of the Founding of the People's Republic of China.

A design expo at Halls 3 and 5 will gather first-tier Italian design brands such as Fendi and Armani.

Notably, Design and Zhuhai-Macao Cooperation will be spotlighted in dialogue format to mark the 20th Anniversary of Macao's Return to the Motherland. Further Hong Kong and Macao design resources will be exposed to mainland enterprises at the event.

Also slated are a closed-door academic committee meeting, Design Trip that takes in all the exhibitions, workshop tours, hands-on experiences, and lectures, as well as ceremonies for the Macao Design Award 2019, Zhuhai Design Award, and Huacan Award.

The newly established Zhuhai Design Award will be given to the most urban, sci-tech, cultural, and lifestyle-oriented designs by elite nationwide designers. It will become a new calling card of Zhuhai and the design sector of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Design moguls from more than 10 countries and regions will discuss innovative design concepts in the science and technology, living environments, and manufacturing sector and showcase their latest achievements.

They include Fan Di'an, president of the Central Academy of Fine Arts; Lu Xiaobo, dean of the Academy of Arts and Design of Tsinghua University; Kenya Hara, art director of MUJI; Luca Fois, founder of the Tortona Design District of Milan Design Week, and others.

Meanwhile, the Zhuhai-Macao Design Center, a design + science service platform started by Zhuhai Huafa Group in Shizimen Central Business District, will provide settled design institutions with office and exhibition space and other value-added services to help coordinate related industries in Zhuhai and Macao.

The event is organized by Huafa Group, Beijing Gehua Culture Development Group, Hong Kong Federation of Design Associations, and Macao Design Centre under the guidance of the Zhuhai Municipal People's Government.
