The Macao-Zhuhai Entrepreneur Summit 2019 opened at the Zhuhai International Convention & Exhibition Center on Oct 21 to address: Let's Make the Greater Bay Area a Dreamland for All by Developing New Industries.

Around 3,000 central, state, ministerial and provincial officials, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area entrepreneurs, enterprise representatives from Taiwan and Portuguese-speaking countries, government officials, and industrial representatives shared their experience and insights into Zhuhai-Macao cooperation.

Guangdong Gov Ma Xingrui attended the opening ceremony and Vice Gov Zhang Hu; Macao SAR Secretary of Economy & Finance Lionel Leung; and Zhuhai Party Chief Guo Yonghang delivered speeches respectively. Mayor Yao Yisheng presided. 

Wang Wenyin, chairman of Shenzhen Amer International Group; Chen Dongsheng, founder and chairman of Taikang Life Insurance; Ho Pui Fan, vice board director of the Macao Chamber of Commerce; and Yan Jiehe, founder of China Pacific Construction Group, delivered keynote speeches.

Parallel dialogues were held concerning youth innovation, characterized finance, Macao-Zhuhai cross-border trade and synergic tourism development, and professional services. At them, projects were matched with financial and investment institutions.

The plaque for the Demonstration Zone (Zhuhai) for Guangdong-Macao Cross-Border Financial Cooperation was unveiled. The first phase will allocate 6,000 sq m (1.5 acres) of office space at Hengqin Headquarters Building for Macao financial institutions, which can also apply for Hengqin New Area’s preferential policies for cross-border offices.

Furthermore, the Macau Institute for Tourism Studies Education Collaboration Center for Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area was launched by the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies in collaboration with the Zhuhai Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism & Sports Bureau and Zhukuan Group.

The center will offer professional courses on hotel service criteria and international tourism accreditation, training for tourism-leisure talents and general managers in the tourism industry, as well as practical training.

Agreements regarding more than 20 Zhuhai-Macao cooperation projects worth more than 19.8 billion yuan ($2.8 billion) were signed on opening day. They cover creative cultural-tourism, characterized finance, cross-border commerce and trade, and healthcare.

Tencent (Zhuhai) Smart Industry Headquarters project was a summit high note as it will bring the company's industry internet technology to Zhuhai, set up an all-for-one sci-tech innovation cluster, and advance Macao-Zhuhai cooperation in the digital economy.

Other notable projects include a Hengqin International Advertising Center, Macao Financial Talent Training Base, Aviation Logistics Base of Macao International Airport in Zhuhai, development of liquefied natural gas (LNG) on Zhiwan Island, and more.

The event was handled by the Zhuhai Bureau of Commerce and Macao Trade & Investment Promotion Institute under the auspices of the Zhuhai Municipal People's Government and Macao Secretariat for Economy & Finance. Guangdong and Macao governments and the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR provided guidance.
