Macao's fourth water line from Zhuhai okayed to go
The fourth water pipeline from Zhuhai to Macao has been approved by Guangdong and Macao water conservancy authorities, the constructor Zhuhai Water Environment Holdings announced on Aug 15.
The line starts from the newly built Guangchang Pumping Station in Nanping and crosses Nanwan, the Zhuhai Free Trade Zone, and Hengqin New Area to terminate in Cotai of Macao.
About 15 km (9 miles) of pipeline have been built and a pumping station expanded to handle 200,000 cubic meters per day at a price tag of 527.5 million yuan ($75 million) from Macao.
Pipeline
Three previous pipelines provide one-way water from Gongbei to the Macao Peninsula. The water is then delivered to Cotai via pipelines on the Sai Van and Friendship (Ponte de Amizade) bridges. About 500,000 cubic meters are supplied daily, which covers 96 percent of Macao's demand.
This fourth water pipeline will increase the daily water supply to 700,000 cubic meters and give a circular structure to the system. Not only will it secure the water supply to Macao, it will also satisfy the surging demand in Cotai, noted the constructor.
