Shandong celebrates Huazhao Festival
Following the Lantern Festival, the Huazhao Festival, a traditional flower festival, is the next cheerful celebration on China's traditional festival calendar.
With a history of over 2,000 years, the Huazhao Festival is held in celebration of the flower goddess' birthday. Since the climate varies in different parts of China, people hold celebrations on the 2nd, 12th, or 15th day of the second month on the Chinese lunar calendar.
People usually gather together on that day to enjoy the spring sunshine and beautiful scenery, and it is a chance for families to join in on the custom of "taqing", meaning spring outings.
Yishan Mountain in Jining, East China's Shandong province held a wide range of traditional activities to celebrate the Huazhao Festival on March 14 to welcome the arrival of spring.
