Master bird-and-flower painter Guo Zhiguang
Born in 1942 in Weifang, Shandong province, Guo Zhiguang is a renowned Chinese modern painter, artist and educator who specializes in bird-and-flower paintings.
Guo was born to a family of artists and was taught by famous painters Xu Peiji and Hou Zhuoru when he was in high school. After graduating from the China Academy of Art in 1962, he studied under celebrated modern Chinese painters like Pan Tianshou, Wu Fuzhi, and Zhu Lesan.
Guo's bird-and-flower paintings are known for their distinctive look which combines northern and southern painting styles.
Guo has devoted much of his life to the teaching of Chinese painting. The artist, whose works have earned acclaim at home and abroad, has trained many Chinese educators and calligraphers.
Guo is presently the director and senior professor of the Academy of Chinese Painting at the Shandong University of Art and Design. He is also a member of the China Artists Association and the China Calligraphers Association, the honorary president of the Shandong Artists Association, and the president of the Shandong Calligraphy and Painting Association.
