Construction starts on Wellington College China Huili School Nantong
The groundbreaking ceremony of Wellington College China Huili School Nantong was held on Jan 3.
Wellington College, founded in 1859, is a major public school in the United Kingdom and a pioneer in youth education reform and innovation. In 2009, Wellington College China officially started operation as Wellington College's first overseas partner.
Huili School is a high-end bilingual education brand set up by Wellington College China in Shanghai and Hangzhou.
Wellington College China Huili School Nantong is the third Huili School established in China, covering 48 hectares with an investment of 600 million yuan ($23 million).
It will be a 15-year bilingual school. After construction, it will be Wellington College's largest boarding school in China and will cater to 2,000 day students and 900 boarding students, according to Joy Qiao, founder and chair of Wellington College China.
Its immersive bilingual teaching model, international teaching methods and high-quality educational resources at home and abroad are expected to help Su-Tong Science and Technology Park further perfect high-end functional infrastructure and attract more talents and projects to the Yangtze River Delta.
Wellington College China Huili School Nantong will open in September 2022.
Pan Jianhua, deputy mayor of Nantong was present at the ceremony.
Chris Wood, British Consul-General in Shanghai also attended and spoke highly of the Wellington College China Huili School Nantong project with its great significance in promoting Sino-UK cooperation and exchanges.
In the future, Su-Tong park will further amplify the brand effect of Wellington College, and make every effort to build it into a highlight in Nantong's elite education sector.
In addition, Su-Tong Science and Technology Park is accelerating its development layout to promote Sino-Singapore and Sino-Austrian international cooperation, and making every effort to attract international projects and improve its international supporting facilities, including international schools and hospitals, to develop itself into a model in international cross-Yangtze River integrated development.
