Slew of projects get underway on first working day of 2021
A raft of industrial projects got underway at the very start of the new year in Shanghai's Lin-gang Special Area, according to officials in the area.
Among them was China's first 12-inch vehicle regulation, level power semiconductor automatic wafer manufacturing plant. Being developed by Wingtech Technology, a global communications and semiconductors company, it broke ground in the Lin-gang Special Area on Jan 4, the first working day of 2021.
Officials said that when completed, it will have annual production capacity of 400,000 units.
Nine other projects, each with investment funding of over 1 billion yuan ($ 154.8 million), starting construction in Lin-gang on the day.
With a total investment of more than 30 billion yuan, the 10 projects not only include production plants for such cutting-edge industrial fields as integrated circuits, biomedicines and new energy vehicles -- but also science and technology innovation centers being funded and built by companies directly under the central government.
Officials said a number of factories also broke ground on the day.
With an increasing demand for industrial carriers in the Lin-gang Special Area, all of its development parks have invested in the construction of factories with high standards.
Officials said that when completed, these projects will further promote the development of industries in the areas of biomedicines, IC, AI, new energy vehicles, aerospace and other fields.
According to Wu Xiaohua, deputy director of the Lin-gang Special Area Administration, since its establishment in August of 2019, the area has signed contracts with 197 projects, with a total investment of more than 200 billion yuan.
